Corrections and clarifications

An earlier version said that one tool which would ordinarily help gauge the outbreak's true size no longer exists, and referred to FoodNet's elimination. FoodNet has not been eliminated. The CDC made reporting optional for Cyclospora and five other pathogens for data collected on or after July 1, 2025, and the network still runs, covering a surveillance area of about 16 per cent of the US population. The narrowing of FoodNet's reporting requirements was written up as the end of the network, which contradicted this article's own accurate statement that FoodNet still runs.

An earlier version said Hui Ka Yan had not appeared in public since he was detained. Hui appeared in court in Shenzhen on Aug. 20, 2026 to be sentenced, and the court released photographs showing him standing between two officers as the sentence was announced. It was his first public appearance since he was detained in 2023.

An earlier version said Kennys, the Galway bookshop, took a single online order last May for 5,000 obscure titles and called the volume bananas. The Irish Times reported that Kennys has been receiving repeated orders by email in the middle of the night for upwards of 5,000 often obscure titles. It gave no month and did not quote the shop describing them. The passage has been corrected, and the middle of the night email detail, which the article had attached to Berlin, has been returned to Galway.

An earlier version said reclassifying a drug as a biologic adds four years to the wait for Medicare price negotiation, and described Public Citizen's seven-year figure as unexplained. The report says the delay comes from CMS counting the eleven years from the March 2020 date on which the drug was converted to a biologic rather than from its original approval, which for Creon is a delay of about seven years. A table row giving the added delay as four years has been corrected. An earlier version also said the report pointed to a parallel case in which AbbVie argued plasma-derived products should be ineligible for negotiation. The report contains no such passage; that reference has been removed. An earlier version said the report did not detail the timing of the next negotiation round. The report identifies it as the 2029 round.

An earlier version said Rudy Guede's fingerprints were found at the scene of Meredith Kercher's murder and were the key physical evidence against him. Guede was convicted after his DNA was found at the crime scene. The reference to fingerprints has been corrected and the claim about the key physical evidence removed.

An earlier version said the CDC's August 5 update reported 1,947 cyclospora infections across nine states and at least 98 hospitalizations. Those were the figures in the CDC's July 24 update. The August 5 update reported 6,358 infections across 15 states and at least 278 hospitalizations.

An earlier version said Sen. Rick Scott of Florida had called for Rep. Max Miller to step down. Scott did not call for Miller's resignation. He said he did not know enough about the allegations and that he trusted Sen. Bernie Moreno. The reference has been removed.

An earlier version said Al Jazeera reported that Gustavo Petro ultimately said he would respect the election result. Al Jazeera reported no such thing. Petro had not acknowledged the result. That clause has been removed.
